We all like to look our best on holiday, right?
Whether it's a holiday with the girls in hope of finding an exciting summer romance, relaxing with family or spending some quality time with your other half, looking your best is key to making the most of your time away.
I thought that I'd do this post, showing how I prepare for my holidays, as a little guide to what you can do to turn your pretty little selves into that beach goddess that's somewhere deep down inside all of us.
The thing that I start with is work out say I'm going to get healthy. I came home from Egypt in August 2013 and declared that I will dedicate the next 6 months to losing my excess weight and getting fit for my 21st birthday.. Did I do that? Well, I lost a stone.. and gained half a stone. I am no where near my goal, and I do swear that this year is the year that I make myself the person that I want to be. This being said, it's 29 days until I go on holiday, and I know that everyone is the same as me, so here are my top tips:
#1 Get Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred. I've read no end of reviews that say that you can change your body in 30 days.. and I intend on doing this for the next month.
#2 Stay away from anything fizzy, sugary, tasty! Yep, water is your new best friend. You want to drink at least 6 glasses a day.. They say 8, but unless you want me to die, I'm sticking to the 6 that I feel comfortable with. Not only does water fill you up, making you eat less, but it cuts so, so many calories that you drink in a normal day, makes your skin clearer, your eyes brighter, your hair hydrated AND you're stopping such sugars getting all on your teeth, keeping those nice and healthy too. Who knew that it had so many benefits?!
#3 Cut out crap. Oh, you want crisps? Get an apple. You fancy some chocolate? I swear by Weight Watchers hot chocolate sachets.. they're 40 calories a sachet and due to their creamy texture, can be made with water instead of milk and not taste like dish water. Mmm.
You can pick these up in your local Pound World for, yes you guessed it, £1!
#4 Don't eat after 6pm. Just don't.
Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate.
A few weeks before holiday, I start to ease off the fake tan *gasp*. As many of you know, I'm very much a fan of being bronzed and sometimes looking like Madge from Benidorm. I have such a salmon-y complexion, pale-yet-pink. Not even remotely sexy. The least sexy thing ever. So fake tan is a massive part of my every day routine, but fake tan and sweaty climates are a no-no. All the greasy sun cream, dipping in the pool 10 times a day, white tan-stained clothes? Doesn't sound like it's gonna be a good idea, does it?
I do, however, take my most blendable tan and mix it in with my moisturiser at the night-time just for my pasty legs on the first few days, so it's not all bad.
Exfoliating is key to getting a nice, deep, even tan. You don't want that top, dead layer of skin blocking your colour do you? Not only that, but bodily hairs that are gonna be removed will come off easier and you'll get the most out of your wax/shave.
And speaking of hair removal, that's a definitely yes.. For the best results, I use waxing as my form of hair removal, but only on my legs. God bless all you brave ladies who can get a wax in the downtown area, but I'm a complete chicken. For that, I'll use hair removal cream and then get the last few with a disposable razor.. I use a razor on my underarms just because it's a quick and easy method to use.
Here are my favourite hair removal products:
You should try and get your hair into a healthy condition too. Use hydrating masks every few days, and hydrating shampoos and conditioners every time you wash your hair. If you need to dye your hair, don't forget to do it a few weeks in advance, especially if it's blonde. Green chlorine-caused hair is soo not a good look. Also, once it feels like it's in good condition, don't stop! Carry on moisturising and don't forget to take at least one hair mask and a serum with you on holiday or you'll end up with crazy, frazzled locks. And protect your hair from the heat from appliances with a good heat protector. Also, if you've got a spare moment, get your ends trimmed, it'll do your hair the world of good.
I recommend:
A good set of talons can make you feel uber-confident. I'd definitely recommend getting acrylic extensions done- they look nice, there are a million different patterns/shapes/colours and most of all, they last. I tried CalGel last month, and one fell off within a week and the others just peeled off.. Yeah, they're good if you're looking for something that isn't going to wreck your nails, but I'm looking for the best, and they did NOT pass my test! But if you're not willing to fork out the average £30, there are false nails that you can get from Boots for around £6 that are, dare I say, amazing!
My last memory of false nails was wearing them for a short stint back in college. I'd have to carry the pack around with me everywhere because they'd ping off in the most awkward of situations. I'd get so mad that I'd just rip them off and swear that I'd never wear them again.
So the other month, I'm sat at work, and I'd been eyeing up my friend's nails for a long while, thinking how nice they looked, so natural and a lovely length. After asking where she got them done, she told me that she picks them up from our staff shop for £2 a pop. I figured for £2, I'd give it a go.. and I've not looked back since! These are the little babies that I've found (Kiss nails), but since, I've also tried Revlon nails and also bought a pack of 200 clear Nailene nails and painted them to my own liking, which have been on for 5 days now and are still going strong!
Hope this gave you a bit on an insight as to what I'll be up to in the next few weeks, now I'm off to practice what I preach,
Ciao for now!
