BARGAIN OF THE WEEK: EP 1

One benefit of working at the Boots head office has to be the reduced items that you can bag from the shop. I know, it sounds really shallow, but it's true. Being beauty-savvy has worked in my favour no end of times in the last 3 months.. People will walk past the best of bargains, not realising what they could've had.
Muwahahaha.

I find myself looking in people's baskets too, hoping that they've spotted something that I didn't & hoping that they'll put it back on the shelf so that I can get my greedy mitts onto it.. (never happens, but wishful thinking, right?).

I thought that as an idea to post more on here, I could do a 'Bargain of the week', showing you all what you're missing.. How evil of me.

My bargain of the week this week was easy:

Xen Tan.
My one and only HG fake tan.
And it was £3.
Yes, £3.

Can we all just take a moment to register this, please?

For those of you that haven't heard of this stuff, have you been living under a rock?
I joke. But really, every beauty blogger has tried this, and I've heard nothing but praise for the stuff. I started using this around 2 years ago after hearing so much about it, and back then I bought it for about £33, which is pretty darn pricey. I think I've re-purchased this around 5 times since, paying anywhere from £25-£30, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw that it was £3 in the shop! I literally stood there and just stared at it for about a minute, and then I grabbed all 3 and ran before anyone could take it from me.
Oh how smug I felt for the rest of the day.

I even took a moment out of my 'busy schedule' to pop a status up about it.

THE HOLIDAY SERIES: HOW TO PACK

If there's one thing that I love, it's packing for a vacation. I know what you're thinking: "Is she crazy, how can you love packing?!" or "who even does that?!" Yep, me.
The thought that sometime in the near future I'm getting out of this dull, grey, drizzle-ridden weather and will be sunning myself in 30-something-degrees heat, clear blue skies, not a cloud in sight makes me full to the brim with joy!

The one thing that gets me, though, is that thought.. You know the one. "What the hell do I pack!?". I'll be honest, this holiday has been the biggest struggle of all, because we're a little unsure of what the weather will be like. Obviously, New York is freezing, and we will be getting on the cruise there, but then obviously it's going to get hotter and hotter the further we get to the Bahamas, so it seems as though I'm gonna need a little bit of everything!

Another thing that crosses our minds: SHOPPING! I think holiday shopping is the most exciting kind of shopping that there is, but I find myself holding back at this time of year. As I've said before, I go on holiday at the beginning of the year and then go away again some time in summer, so for the first holiday I tend to scrape together the bits that I bought for last summer.. Truth is, it's only really been worn once or twice and then put away ready for my Feb holiday anyway. You know, it's just been Christmas, we're all a little low on funds, and then it's my mum and sister's birthdays which leaves my bank severely sad-looking, and I quite simply can't afford it! Although, when it comes to summer, I tend to go all out on the shopping-front, so I definitely make up for it!

Back to the packing!
I'm so bad for packing- Me and my inability to separate with my entire wardrobe is always a running joke, so I definitely know that I'm a major over-packer, but last holiday, I made myself take a step back and travel 'light', (most people's 'normal'), and I thought that I could share a few tips that I told myself last year and also made a little checklist of typical things that we're gonna need this holiday, so I really hope that this helps.

Tip #1: Do you need all of that makeup? Pt 1.

I know that a lot of girls have their holy grail makeup that they never stray from, but if you're anything like me, I like to have a little variation in my routine. One day I'm there loving my Bare Minerals and the next, I can't decide between BB cream or liquid foundation, or I'm like "oh, I've not used gel eyeliner in a while, let's give it a whirl' and I'll decide that I love that now.. Literally so, so indecisive when it comes to makeup. I don't think I'll ever have that HG routine.
So my tip is, 2 weeks before holiday, try out all different makeup and keep a sort-of journal if you like. After you've applied your face, make a note of what you used, what you liked the most, and then during the day and at the end of the day make another note of what lasted well and what was mediocre. This way, you can read back and decide what the best items are and you'll know exactly what you need!

Tip #2: Do you need all of that makeup? Pt 2.

I'm very stubborn in my ways when it comes to makeup, and like I said, I will not stick to the one thing. Something I read a while ago said 'look at the makeup that you've packed to take on holiday, and now half it. That's what you need'. Now, this is what I used to take on holiday.. And the zip would be busting open, I'd cram that much in it! I'm very much "yeah, but what if...". I sometimes have days when my usual foundation doesn't sit right, and so I'll use something different, and I always panic that this is what will happen on holiday. But I went away to London towards the end of last year and I literally took a small makeup bag with one of each type of makeup in and I definitely survived! So that is my tip.. Just take one of everything, e.g. One foundation, one mascara etc. Trust me!

Tip #3: So many clothes!

Just like the makeup; put your clothes together and then half them. Honestly, the amount of times that I've got home from holiday & whilst sorting out my case, realised that half of the clothes were untouched and still clean is astonishing. I propose pulling out enough outfits for each night, and then weeding out 2 or 3 that you're a bit iffy on and rewear your favourite ones twice. I'll be honest, I usually do this anyway!

Tip #4: Mix & match

Look for clothes that you can mix and match, e.g. 1 skirt, 2 tops. (not a spin-off from 2 girls, 1 cup-ew). You could even mix daytime and evening wear- denim shorts are the easiest thing for this. Think plain white tee, sheer blouse and a vest. How many looks can you create? And not just that, you should accessorise in the evening- accessories completely change an outfit.

Tip #5: Take neutral shoes
I always make the mistake of wanting to take my nicest wedges, and I like to have outfits to match them.. I then feel totally overdressed and end up not wearing them for the rest of the holiday ---> waste of luggage space and weight! I suggest, (and I am definitely doing this), taking neutral flats; think nude and black cute sandals, maybe a little wedge. Generally, these are going to match every outfit #win.

Here's a little checklist that I made today of all the necessities that you should need on holiday.
You can save it and print it out and use it next time you go away!

Happy packing ladies!

THE HOLIDAY SERIES: THE PERFECT HOLIDAY PREP

We all like to look our best on holiday, right?
Whether it's a holiday with the girls in hope of finding an exciting summer romance, relaxing with family or spending some quality time with your other half, looking your best is key to making the most of your time away.

I thought that I'd do this post, showing how I prepare for my holidays, as a little guide to what you can do to turn your pretty little selves into that beach goddess that's somewhere deep down inside all of us.

The thing that I start with is work out say I'm going to get healthy. I came home from Egypt in August 2013 and declared that I will dedicate the next 6 months to losing my excess weight and getting fit for my 21st birthday.. Did I do that? Well, I lost a stone.. and gained half a stone. I am no where near my goal, and I do swear that this year is the year that I make myself the person that I want to be. This being said, it's 29 days until I go on holiday, and I know that everyone is the same as me, so here are my top tips:

#1 Get Jillian Michaels' 30 day shred. I've read no end of reviews that say that you can change your body in 30 days.. and I intend on doing this for the next month.

#2 Stay away from anything fizzy, sugary, tasty! Yep, water is your new best friend. You want to drink at least 6 glasses a day.. They say 8, but unless you want me to die, I'm sticking to the 6 that I feel comfortable with. Not only does water fill you up, making you eat less, but it cuts so, so many calories that you drink in a normal day, makes your skin clearer, your eyes brighter, your hair hydrated AND you're stopping such sugars getting all on your teeth, keeping those nice and healthy too. Who knew that it had so many benefits?!

#3 Cut out crap. Oh, you want crisps? Get an apple. You fancy some chocolate? I swear by Weight Watchers hot chocolate sachets.. they're 40 calories a sachet and due to their creamy texture, can be made with water instead of milk and not taste like dish water. Mmm.
You can pick these up in your local Pound World for, yes you guessed it, £1!

#4 Don't eat after 6pm. Just don't.

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate.
A few weeks before holiday, I start to ease off the fake tan *gasp*. As many of you know, I'm very much a fan of being bronzed and sometimes looking like Madge from Benidorm. I have such a salmon-y complexion, pale-yet-pink. Not even remotely sexy. The least sexy thing ever. So fake tan is a massive part of my every day routine, but fake tan and sweaty climates are a no-no. All the greasy sun cream, dipping in the pool 10 times a day, white tan-stained clothes? Doesn't sound like it's gonna be a good idea, does it?
I do, however, take my most blendable tan and mix it in with my moisturiser at the night-time just for my pasty legs on the first few days, so it's not all bad.
Exfoliating is key to getting a nice, deep, even tan. You don't want that top, dead layer of skin blocking your colour do you? Not only that, but bodily hairs that are gonna be removed will come off easier and you'll get the most out of your wax/shave.
And speaking of hair removal, that's a definitely yes.. For the best results, I use waxing as my form of hair removal, but only on my legs. God bless all you brave ladies who can get a wax in the downtown area, but I'm a complete chicken. For that, I'll use hair removal cream and then get the last few with a disposable razor.. I use a razor on my underarms just because it's a quick and easy method to use.

Here are my favourite hair removal products:

You should try and get your hair into a healthy condition too. Use hydrating masks every few days, and hydrating shampoos and conditioners every time you wash your hair. If you need to dye your hair, don't forget to do it a few weeks in advance, especially if it's blonde. Green chlorine-caused hair is soo not a good look. Also, once it feels like it's in good condition, don't stop! Carry on moisturising and don't forget to take at least one hair mask and a serum with you on holiday or you'll end up with crazy, frazzled locks. And protect your hair from the heat from appliances with a good heat protector. Also, if you've got a spare moment, get your ends trimmed, it'll do your hair the world of good.
I recommend:

A good set of talons can make you feel uber-confident. I'd definitely recommend getting acrylic extensions done- they look nice, there are a million different patterns/shapes/colours and most of all, they last. I tried CalGel last month, and one fell off within a week and the others just peeled off.. Yeah, they're good if you're looking for something that isn't going to wreck your nails, but I'm looking for the best, and they did NOT pass my test! But if you're not willing to fork out the average £30, there are false nails that you can get from Boots for around £6 that are, dare I say, amazing!
My last memory of false nails was wearing them for a short stint back in college. I'd have to carry the pack around with me everywhere because they'd ping off in the most awkward of situations. I'd get so mad that I'd just rip them off and swear that I'd never wear them again.
So the other month, I'm sat at work, and I'd been eyeing up my friend's nails for a long while, thinking how nice they looked, so natural and a lovely length. After asking where she got them done, she told me that she picks them up from our staff shop for £2 a pop. I figured for £2, I'd give it a go.. and I've not looked back since! These are the little babies that I've found (Kiss nails), but since, I've also tried Revlon nails and also bought a pack of 200 clear Nailene nails and painted them to my own liking, which have been on for 5 days now and are still going strong!

Hope this gave you a bit on an insight as to what I'll be up to in the next few weeks, now I'm off to practice what I preach,

Ciao for now!

THE HOLIDAY SERIES: FINDING THAT PERFECT HOLIDAY

Ah, sun, sand, sex wait, what? This isn't that kind of holiday.. Unless...

Holidays.
The excitement, the planning, the prep, honestly, you think of holidays as being so relaxing and stress-free, but us girls spend so much time before a vacation getting things just right, that we NEED the holiday just to get over it.. And then we need another one to get over leaving the last one.. (which never happens *sob*)

I have the most exciting month of my life coming up.. One that I've waited to come around for as long as I can remember.
This February brings the month that I turn 21 and my little sister turns 18!!
I remember being about 9, Maisie being 6, and us swearing that we would have a huge, joint masquerade ball to celebrate. Yes, that was our dream, and it wasn't until last year that I decided that I wasn't too fussed on a party, but would quite like a dream holiday with my closest family and then a few little events here and there for good measure.

So this was the beginning of the endless quest to find 'the perfect holiday'. Honestly, we spent months debating between New York, the Bahamas, Florida and The Maldives. My boyfriend and dad struggle to enjoy the kind of holidays that me and mum love.. You know, lounging besides the pool, cocktail in one hand, book in the other, taking a dip in the pool every couple of hours.. My dad and boyfriend would much rather go off and 'explore' the land, do trips etc. So this holiday had to be something that catered for everyone.

And that's when my dad found this special trip:
2 days in New York
8 days on a cruise stopping in Florida and travelling around the Bahamas.

Sounds like heaven to me.

Then we thought that we could personalise it.. Make the holiday our own very special trip.
As if by fate, Taylor Swift tickets went on sale the night before we get on the plane to NY, so obviously I HAD to have the tickets, so now our holiday goes as planned:

Day 01: Pamper day: Taking my little sis for a pamper day; hair, nails, wax, you name it, we're having it.
Day 02: Mum's birthday. Shopping in the morning, and then a huge, fancy meal with all my family.
Day 03: Travel to London, check in to hotel, go and see Tay Tay!
Day 04: Maisie's 18th! Off to NY. Get to NY and sight see.
Day 05: Shop, shop and more shop in the Big Apple.
Day 06: Board the cruise ship (The Carnival of Fun!)
-------------------------------------------------
Then we go back to New York, straight to the airport, then back to London, where we are staying another night and then waking up on my 21st!
-------------------------------------

Eeeeep, 3 weeks today. Let the preparation begin!

I'll be back with a little guide on how to have the perfect holiday including how to prep like a queen, pack like a pro and relax like a sloth... Yes, we love sloths in our house.

Bon Voyage!
