REVIEW: LANCOME TEINT MIRACLE

Three guesses what this post is going to be about...

Yep, you got it. It's the Lancome Teint Miracle foundation. 

So I believe that this foundation has been out for a good few years now, however it's one that I've never really thought to try. Truth be told, I generally tend to stay away from Lancome altogether. I've not had any bad past experiences with them or anything, I guess I've just never had any memorable ones.

One day last month, a lovely girl from work and I were chatting about makeup (because what else would us girls talk about, right?) and I was saying how I'd bought a few foundations recently that have turned out to be slightly dark for me. She then, to my fantastic surprise, offered to swap a couple of her lighter ones for my darker ones. 

The following day, I was handed this and couldn't wait to get home and give it a go.

(Just for the record, the original bottles that you can buy from store are much prettier- it's glass (I believe), square and has a great pump on it, however this is the bottle that you use in store to top up sample bottles and seeing as she used to work in store, she picked this up on the cheap-o.)

So, I've been using this every day for the past few weeks give or take a few days and I can honestly say that I've been loving it!

To say how thin the consistency is, the coverage is very, very high. I've barely touched any concealer since wearing this, which makes getting ready really easy. The foundation does smell slightly, which may be slightly too perfumed for some people, so make sure that you give it a sniff before you buy just in case.

It's very blend-able too, which is a massive bonus. There's nothing worse than a foundation that you can't seem to blend, leaving you with funny patches over your face. I've also noticed that you can build it up, so if you feel like you need a little more coverage on certain places.

Another great thing is that it comes in plenty of shades- there are 20 on the Boots.com website and so there may even be even more in store or on the Lancome website.

The only downside that I've found is that it doesn't seem to last very long, which is such a shame. I've tried using different primers, different setting powders, even different skincare regimes, however nothing has worked and I end up looking a little sweaty and patchy- not the look that I tend to go for.

Also, the price! It's £29.50 which is fine, as long as the foundation does it's job, however for that price, you can purchase the infamous Estee Lauder Double Wear and have a hefty, great foundation for the price.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great go-to foundation for the day-time when a heavy face and long-lasting coverage is not needed (maybe shopping, lunch, even work) but I'd definitely leave it to the professionals if you're going on a night out or you need your foundation to last all day.

SOAP AND GLORY; MARVELIPS!

Working for Boots has a lot of perks. We get cheaper products, celebs are forever just popping by, we participate in all kinds of charity events, we get to go to said charity events, but one of the main perks of the job is that we are in completely overwhelmed with Soap and Glory.

This makes me very, very happy. It's no secret that I am a massive fan of Soap and Glory; their products always work and do just as they say they will, everything smells delectable, the packaging is super-cute, the product names just simply whimsical and their witty humour on the labels are just something else- if you haven't seen this yet, have a quick peek at your nearest S & G product and you will see exactly what I mean.

One thing that I've said that I'd try more of is their makeup- for some reason, it's just a brand of makeup that I would never purposely go to look at, nor would I consider picking up any of their range if I was in need of, say, a new lippy however recently, I've been super lucky to try a few key pieces of their range and I thought that I would share a couple of reviews with you!

The first thing that I tried was this duo lip pencil. One end is the lip shade and the other end is an instant plumping effect- a highlighter for the lips.

This is the nicest nude pencil I've ever had the pleasure to use. The shade is sooo 'your-lips-but-better', which is something that I've been reaching for just recently.. (Does anyone else go through nude lips / statement lips periods?? Just me? ok.)

The colour-end of the pencil is fantastic. As I said, this shade is a beautiful nude- it just makes my lips seem fuller and it instantly makes me look more 'made up' but in a good way. I can put this on at 7am and by lunch time, I can still see that it's there, still practically perfect. It also smells like Chocolate Orange which is probably just another reason why I love it... I also read online that it contains super sparkling pigments, however I can see no such thing, so don't be put off by this.

I just don't get the other end. The highlighter end. It does nothing for me. However, this doesn't worry me because it's easily ignored. One thing that I have noticed though is that you can use it as an eyebrow bone highlighter.. I guess that's making decent use out of it, even if it's not relevant.

Anyway, as you can see I've bought another one (mainly because I wanted to take it eeeeverywhere with me but I kept losing it), but yeah. I'd 100% recommend this to you. I just wish that they would do other shades, but I'm glad that they perfected this one first.

PHILOSOPHY PURITY THREE-IN-ONE CLEANSER

So tonight, featuring on TangledinBeauty is, dare I say, my new holy grail cleanser. Yep, I know that using the HG status is kinda risque, I mean what if I find a new HG cleanser and upset this one, but really guys please try this! Its definitely something that you'll thank me for.

I was given this sample at work one day and after hearing such rave reviews, I was very excited to get home and wash away the day's makeup and grime (ew). Wow, I've never been so impressed with a product upon first use- it was love at first use for sure.

You only need a 20p-sized blob in your palm, lather up under warm water and massage into your face and neck for 30 seconds. Rinse off as you usually would and pat your face dry et voila! Perfectly, squeaky clean skin in 30 seconds. I dare you to take your cotton pad and another cleanser and try to find a scrap of dirt that this cleanser hasn't already removed. I've used this with heavy-coverage makeup and super-heavy eye makeup (I'm talking smokey-eye, eyeliner and 4 coats of mascara) and still, just one rinse and it's all gone.

Another fab thing with this cleanser is the smell; I've heard a lot of people complain about this, however I've really enjoyed the medicinal scent that it gives out. Fair play, this might be slightly too strong for some sensitive noses, but I've not qualms about this whatsoever. 

I've also noticed, and this is the only new product that I've introduced into my skincare regime, that my skin has improved drastically within the last 6 weeks of using this. It's clear and when I do get that occasional pimple, it's just a tiny one that is gone within the day. My skin is also much less red, pretty even and a lot brighter, too. This stuff has worked wonders! 

Also, I really like the fact that they offer different sized bottles; the smaller size retails at £8, the medium bottle around £18 and the largest bottle is around £28. This seems pretty pricey, but let me tell you, I've been using this tiny sample bottle on a daily basis for around 6 weeks now and as you can see, it's about half-way gone. I imagine that the biggest bottle would last for at least 6 months. I really like that you can get it in a sample size- I'm gonna get the big bottle and keep topping the sample bottle up so that I can take it away on holiday/trips without having to lug the big bottle around with me. 

There is only one negative thing that came to mind when reviewing this; the price! Personally, I do think that it's ever so slightly overpriced, however I 100% would pay it purely because of the results that it gives. I think this would definitely put people off purchasing it, but one thing that is great is that when you purchase a full-sized bottle, you get a 'try me' sample and if you don't like it, you can return the big bottle and get your money back. 

Overall, I would say that you're silly not to give this a go- you'll get the sample size and, like I said, you'll get the full refund if you don't like it, although I can almost guarantee that you won't look back!

ANASTASIA BEVERLEY HILLS DIPBROW POMADE

Anastasia Beverley Hills Dipbrow Pomade in shade 'Dark Brown'

£15 from Cult Beauty

Okay, so this is a product that everyone and their mum's have raved about, but I wanted to give it a fair go before deciding on my final verdict. I've been using this since the day that I received it (I got it for Christmas off my boyfriend), so it's given me a good 2 and a half months of daily usage and, as you can see, it has barely put a dent in the pot.

First impressions:

After first hearing about this, I spent so much time watching Youtube and Instagram videos and reading blog post after blog post, trying to figure out if this product was something that I would use or not. By the time that I got my hands on it, I was sure that I'd be an expert and have fantastic brows in a swish. No. This was NOT the case.

 

So, Christmas day, I sat on the bed along with all of my new makeup, with the intention of making myself look like a beauty godess, and the only thing that I was interested in was this. Grabbing it first, I decided to use my every-day eyebrow brush (Real Techniques angled eyeliner brush) which is fantastic, may I just add. As all of the reviews said, you only need a tiny bit on your brush and so that's what I did. I put the tiniest bit on my brush.

 

Error #1: Listening to other bloggers about how much you need on the brush. I find that I need a normal amount of eyebrow product to get this to work wonders for my brows- just a quick heavy-handed swipe will be more than enough, but a slight 'dab' into the pot is not going to work for you.

 

Error #2: Using this product heavy-handedly with the intention of cleaning it up and using a concealer to cover the damage. Nope. Well, technically yes but there's alot of scrubbing to be done, leaving a nice, red mess. Not very Kim Kardashian at all.

 

Price & shades:

At £15, it's not exactly expensive if we compare it to the infamous Benefit Brow Zings, however it is slightly more expensive than, say, the Collection palette that you can pick up for just under £4.

My only gripe with paying this price is that here in the UK, the only way of getting your mitts on it is to order online (Cult Beauty and Beauty Bay stock it) meaning that there aren't any samples and you kinda have to guess what shade you are. Obviously, if it comes and you see it and you think that it's the wrong shade, then of course you can send it back, but I am very lazy and get too excited for the delivery, so that's a no-go for me. I spent a while looking at pictures of people using it and guessing what shade- I quite like dark brows anyway, so I went for Dark Brown, however I think a lighter one would have been better suited, especially as I'm trying not to wear so much fake tan.

Cult Beauty offer 11 shades, ranging from blondes to brunettes to auburns, so there really is something for everyone, however it really is just a guessing game as to which one you will need.

 

Longevity:

In terms of how long the actual pot of product will last, as you can see from the photos above, it's had almost 3 months worth of daily useage and that is all that I've used, so I can see this lasting a good 6-9 months, which is fantastic. The only thing that I was slightly worried about is that gel/cream products tend to dry up after short lengths of time, but it's been three months and the further down I'm getting, the better the product seems to be getting, which is fantastic!

In terms of the longevity on the face, this product lasts all day. No budging, no slipping, no smudging. Once it's there, it's there until you cleanse it off. Usually when using any other brand of brow product, I find that I touch my face throughout the day and come lunchtime, I'll have one patchy brow and the other will be smudged down my face, but this has stopped all of that.

 

Removal:

Now, I'm sure that we have all read about how hard this product is to remove, however the only time that I've stuggled with this was when it was on bare skin. There was one day that I was in a major rush, put no foundation on *shock horror* but (of course) had to have my brows on, duhhh. That was pretty hard to get off- however with just a couple of swipes of my trusty oil-based eye remover, I was brow-free in a short space of time, but yeah, on a daily basis, I think the oil in my foundation helps to budge this off so there is minimal scrubbing around the eye area.. I don't want saggy eyes, thanks!

 

Overall:

I'd probably give this 8/10.

 

There aren't many negatives for me, but here are a couple that just knock it off the top spot;

 

- There are no samples. No stores that we can visit and get colour-matched, so it's a guessing game as to which shade to purchase.

 

- I can see it drying out before I get a chance to use it up.

 

- For some reason, I keep getting bobbly-bits in my brows upon application. Not a massive issue as a quick run of the finger and they're gone, but it looks a little messy. Maybe it's an error in technique on my behalf, so hopefully I'll find a way around it.

 

- It takes quite a long time to get used to it. In fact, it's been almost 3 months and I am still trying to use it to it's full potential.

 

- Quite frankly, this product was too hyped up. I hate it when something is raved about and then you get it and you're slightly disappointed and I just feel like that's what has happened here.

RIMMEL WONDER'FULL MASCARA REVIEW

Okay, so I recently went along to an event that Rimmel were holding, where they told us about a few new products that they are launching; one of which was this new Wonder'full mascara.

I had heard absolute wonderful things about this and when they offered me a free tube of the stuff, I practically snatched their hands off (poor boy). 

I could not WAIT to use this the next morning after seeing such wonderful (get it, huh huh) results from a number of bloggers. Up I got, looking forward to having a lovely set of lashes for the day, but unfortunately this left my lashes lacklustre, barely defining my lashes. The more that I tried to put it, the less that seemed to be staying. I figured that I'd started it all wrong and gave up, going for my HG mascara to fix the problem that the Wonder'full had left.

Just after I had got ready, I hopped in the car with my sister to find that she had the most stunning, defined lashes that I'd seen in a long while, to which she explained 'omg, it's that new Rimmel mascara.. the Wonder'full'.

Baffled, the next morning I tried again.. And again the next day.. And also again. I wanted to love this mascara, but I just can't get it to work on my lashes. Maybe I have a funny formula? It does smell a little 'off', however my sister's smells identical, so I'm not too sure. Another downside to the mascara is that it leaves your lashes slightly greasy upon removal, making me feel somewhat dirty.. Not cool.

Anyway, in one of my crazy rushes to get ready for work, I left my mascara open one day and upon arriving home, I thought that I'd give it one more go, et voila the answer was there.

The formula was slightly too wet, so it was just slipping off my lashes and not gripping them in the slightest.

I now have a very lovely, slightly dry mascara that has become a staple in my daily routine.

This hasn't get knocked my HG L'oreal So Couture off the top spot yet, but good one Rimmel, I am definitely a fan!

L'OREAL PARIS MILLION LASHES SO COUTURE MASCARA

You may have seen that this mascara featured in my latest "Beauty Favourites" post (here for anyone who missed it) and damn, did it deserve to be there!

 

I've always been a huge fan of L'Oreal mascaras- my usual go-to being the Volume Million Lashes Excess, but being very impressed by the recent Miss Manga and the Mega Volume Collagene mascaras. 

I find that L'Oreal are spot-on when it comes to their mascaras; their formulas are never too runny, yet not too dry and they are so deeply pigmented that they absolutely kill any other mascaras in terms of defining the eyes. Their brushes are always so fabulously designed- they tend to grab each lash, defining, lengthening and curling them to perfection, they get so close to the base of the lashes that you don't need eyeliner, and they give the most volume and flutter-ey-ness to my lashes that no other mascara has come close to.

This mascara is no different to all of the factors that I listed above. 

I've never known a mascara to give my lashes such volume and make them flutter the way that this one does. Also, the formula makes my lashes so dark that it gives my eyes such depth and definition that I've been scrapping my eyeliner. The brush gives you just enough control to get to the very inner lashes too, which is definitely something that I look for in a mascara.

Another bonus of this wonderful mascara is that it smells absolutely divine! 

If I could bottle this smell, I would.

BENEFIT THEY'RE REAL PUSH UP GEL EYELINER.

Gah, another Benefit they're real liner review.. Yep, you've got it.

I couldn't let this little nugget of greatness go a miss on the old blog-sphere now, could I?

So yes, as we have gathered, this is the review of the new Benefit They're Real Push-up Liner.. After months and months of advertising and hyping the product up, Benefit have finally realised it and I was lucky enough to attend a Bene-event at Boots Head Office and got my manicured paws on it.

After reading review after review of this product, I gathered that it takes a while to get used to the new concept of the 'AccuFlex' rubber tip, which is very unique, so I was slightly intimidated by it. I woke up the next day so eager to try it, figuring that I'd give it my best go... Here is my first attempt.

Not too bad if I do say so myself.. Yes, it was tricky and it took me a good 10 minutes to get it somewhat even, but it was nowhere near as hard as everyone had made it out to be.

So now down to the nitty gritty.. The formula of the product is wonderful; so pigmented and thick. I often find that gel eyeliners can be slightly translucent and you have to go over it again and again for it to look powerful. The gel itself is a very strange consistency- very soft and flexible as oppose to stiff and hard to spread.

The unique pen-like applicator definitely gives it the upper hand- I love it! I like the control that you have over the liner, and the tip is so flexible, so getting those hard to reach places is significantly easier. I also love that the liner gets so close to the lash line, making the liner seem even darker.

 

Now for the lasting power: The liner starts off looking fantastic, but after 4 hours of wear, it is considerably smudged and undefined. Considering that I spend 12+ hours out of the house each day, by the time I return home, my eyes are looking a little worse for wear, which makes me weary of using this on a daily basis, and only for days when I'll only be out for 4 or less hours.

I've also read a number of reviews that suggest that the liner is very hard to remove after a day of wear, but I've had no problems with this- in fact, I've found it relatively easy to remove, so I'm not sure what the issue is there.

All in all, I love the concept, I love how dark the formula is and I really love the applicator, but I seriously hate the lack of lasting-power.

I don't think that I'd re-buy this purely because I've had liners that have lasted all day at half the price, but I would recommend this if you don't have oily lids, or if you've just got money to burn!

MY FAVOURITE FALSE NAILS: KISS EVERLASTING FRENCH

I often get asked; "where do you get you nails done?" or am told that my nails always look nice, and my secret? It has to be these babies.

I found out about these when I was looking for a salon that can perfect the french manicure.. Don't you find that they're either too wide, or the white tip is too long/short on the nail, and I find that they often look odd. So when I saw my trainer's nails looking perfectly even, I had to know what salon she visited. And that's when she shared with me the secret that has changed my life forever...(okay well maybe not my life, but it has made me VERY happy!)

I felt very dubious about the fact that they were only stick-on nails.. I remember trying false nails back in college and within an hour of application, PING! You'd lost two before even getting out of the door. 

Well I can safely say that these have restored my faith in false nails. 

I can apply these on a Sunday night, and the following Sunday, they are still intact. Yeah, one may have fallen off, but it's nothing major. I just make sure that I carry the pack with me so that I can replace it asap. I find that these can last me a good two/three weeks, if I just keep replacing the nails that fall off. 

Another thing that worries me about false nails is the whole; "gah, they go grotty and dingy though" or "they chip so quickly and start to look a mess" and I have to agree with these comments- with every other nail set that I've tried, they don't make it to the 3rd day without looking trashed and I have to take them off or paint over them, however these kiss nails still look perfect after two weeks of wear.

I'm very lucky as I get these from the staff shop (I work at Boots Head Office) for £2 a pop, so I probably spend £8 a month on these nails, whereas I was spending £35 on acrylics each month, but you guys can grab these from Superdrug for £8.19 here, which is still good for some quality nails.

COCOA BROWN 1 HOUR TAN REVIEW

Okay, can we all just take a moment to look at this tan and just pray that they never change the formula or discontinue it because I THINK I'VE JUST FOUND MY HOLY GRAIL FAKE TAN.

Now, I have tried 95% of tans on the market, some budget, some not-so budget (yes, I mean you Vita Liberta) and I bought this on a whim after hearing so many rave reviews about it. Heck, why haven't I purchased this before?! Being tanorexic, *note the T at the beginning of the word- I'm quite the opposite of an anorexic*, I'm constantly looking for new tanning products that tick all the boxes, and after almost 8 years of searching, I feel like my search is complete.

I don't like reading reviews that are as long as my Year 11 Romeo and Juliet essay, so here are 10 reasons why you should stop what you're doing, click this link and get yourself some of this wonder-product. NOW!

1. It smells divine. There are 100's of tans that claim to have got rid of that tell-tale biscuity smell, and this is the only one that actually does as it says! I've used this for the past week on a constant basis and NOT ONCE have I smelt like anything other that this beutiful, floral scent.

2. The colour is so deep, yet so natural. I struggle finding the balance between looking golden and looking orange, but I've had so many compliments whilst wearing this tan this week that I feel confident in saying that it's the perfect colour! Even my boyfriend, who literally detests fake tan, approves of this bad boy!

3. It doesn't cling to dry skin; for some reason, I have a dry patch on my hand that no moisturiser can budge, making my tan quite patchy. Hallelujah! This tan doesn't cling to it, but instead just glides over, leaving skin feeling silky smooth and leaving me very happy! :)

4. You have control over what shade you'd like the tan to develop at. You leave the tan for one hour if you'd like a subtle glow, for two hours if you'd like a medium shade and for three hours if you want a deeper shade. Personally, I always put my tan on before bed and leave overnight, as I get better results this way.

5. It's much better than higher-end tans that I've tried. For me, the colour is quite similar to St Tropez Dark, the consistency just like Fake Bake and the scent better than any other I've ever tried.

6. One random thing that I'm happy with is the fact that when you squirt the mousse out, it doesn't keep expanding. I find that the other mousse tans that I've tried tend to carry on squirting out of the nozzle after you've stopped pressing on it and I always end up with the spare bit going all over my bedding or something. So I was very happy when I saw that this stops when you want it too! 

7. It's affordable! Ranging from £6-10 depending on where you get this from, you can't go wrong. Even if you hate it, just remember that two frappuccinos will cost you just as much and it makes you feel slightly better!

8. It actually works on my face! I was yet to find a fake tan that actually works on my face.. I find that I apply them before I go to bed and wake up looking somewhat paler than I did before.. How is that even possible! And bonus, it doesn't seem to clog pores and cause breakouts. #winning#

9. It's fairly long-lasting; it lasts longer than most of my usual tans and it fades nice and evenly. Don't you hate it when your tan is on it's last legs and you look like you've got some crazy form of a skin disease?!

10. The packaging is nice and girly. It's a perfect size- not too big or small that you struggle to grasp it properly, and it's colour scheme is just lovely. I know that you can't judge a book by it's cover, but if it looks cheap and tacky, then it probably is!

REVIEW: GARNIER OLIA HAIR COLOUR REVIEW

Hello lovelies! 

Today, I wanted to review the fairly new 'Olia' hair colourant by Garnier. I got shade 4.6 in Deep Red because I was after that Amy Childs, Cheryl Cole-red look. After reading about this new box dye in different magazines and on their website and seeing their TV adverts, I was really intrigued by it's break-through concept of hair dye and couldn't wait to get my hands on a box. 

Garnier say that this new hair dye revolutionized the way that dyes are harmful to hair by being the first oil-powered home hair colour. It has no ammonia and claims to improve the visible appearance of hair and make it silky smooth. Sounds amazing, yes? 

I kind of wish that I hadn't just jumped into buying the dye & had a little look around on blogs for reviews, because I do feel a little ripped off with this dye. At £6.99 for one box, this is one of the pricier box dyes on the market, and I've always had such good results, so I was expecting a little more of this.. 

ANYWAY- Here is my review, and it is 100% honest. 

This is the only picture that I got of the box because I didn't originally plan on doing a review.

I like the packaging actually- I think that it's chic, it tells you all you need to know, and it promotes the product very well. I like the fact that the back of the box has a pop-out circle, so that you can lay down the box and use the hole as a bottle holder so that you don't make a mess of your surfaces. Inside the box, you get the applicator bottle, the colourant, the mixer, instructions and gloves. I must say that the gloves are really good quality compared to most box dye ones, so that's a plus! 

Okay, so on to the product itself: 

Once mixed, the colour looks a little frightening.. It's very dark and I did have a little bit of a panic, but soldiered on never the less. The dye smells very pleasant actually, and I put that down to the lack of ammonia-- I didn't have the urge to rip my nose off like I do with every other home dye kit. 

There was definitely enough product in one box-- I have mid-length hair and I had just under half of a bottle left, so I dyed my extensions too. I thought that this was really good, because I've been having to buy two boxes the last couple of times that I've dyed my hair. 

One of the things that I wasn't happy with was the applicator bottle itself-- It's shaped as sort of a tear-drop, maybe to replicate the drops of oil that it contains, which at first I thought was really clever and different, but when it becomes wet with the dye, its very hard to grip and I dropped it more times than you can imagine. I wasn't all that impressed with it. 

Was I impressed with the results? 

yes, I was... At first. 

BEFORE:

Ignore my completely gormless faces-- I was just showing how puffy my hair was after trying out a new dry shampoo haha. These were the last pictures I could find of my 'old' hair, because, like I said, I didn't intend on doing the review. As you can see, it's a medium brown, very dull and in dire need of a little sprucing up.

TWO WEEKS LATER:

Yes, the results were lovely when I had very first washed out the dye.. but it wasn't until later on in the day that my sister pointed out that it was all patchy. I looked for myself, and was astonished to find that huge patches of my hair were still brown. Luckily it blended in okay, and it was the under layers that were patchy, so it wasn't completely noticeable.  It's two weeks later now, and as you can see from the picture, the dye has come out a lot, leaving me with a dull, rusty colour, which isn't so bad, but my hair feels and looks very dry, so I've actually bought a different dye to try out. (I will probably blog about this one when I've done it.) Also, the dye is still running out of my hair when it's wet, so that is two weeks on. I read a few reviews online about this this morning, and I have found that quite a few say about how the dye has left their hair patchy too, so I don't think it was just a personal thing. So beware of this! That is my main dislike about this product. 

You do get a good sized conditioner with this, which I still have half left, and it's not bad stuff.
